Carteck

Carteck is the UK trade name for Teckentrup. Teckentrup is a German manufacturer who specializes in insulated sectional garage doors. Unlike other manufacturers who offer a wide range of doors and budget options, Carteck does not spread its focus and only specializes in what they do best.

Who Makes Carteck Doors

Teckentrup has been a manufacturer of doors and steel products for the last 80 years. The Carteck range was designed for the UK residential market, fully equipped with German engineering and high manufacturing standards. The doors of the Carteck range are designed to fit the specifications and measurements of UK garage openings. Teckentrup’s UK branch is located in Warrington. Because of this, the lead times for Carteck’s doors are shorter than most of Teckentrup’s competitors. There are also many options for standard sizes that are available with a quick turnaround.

What Carteck Actually Makes

The GSW40 sectional door is designed with a steel frame and is 40 mm thick with double steel skin and polyurethane foam that is injected during the manufacturing process. Because of this process and the foam bonding to the steel, the door maintains its shape and integrity. Unlike other insulation panels that use polystyrene and can compress, separate, or degrade over time, the GSW40 sectional door does not.

There are several panel design options, including contemporary, ribbed, and Georgian styles. Unique colors are available, including some rare color options. Window options also vary in both position and size. Doors can also be quite large, as the XL and SuperSize versions have hardware and springs upgraded to support the additional weight.

All of the sectional doors are available, as well as insulated side-hinged doors that are made of the same 40mm double-skinned panels. The side-hinged panels use an aluminum frame and hinges that support the panel and ensures that it won’t sag over time. If the quality of both doors is important, Carteck is one the few companies that make both types of doors to the same high quality.

Security and Certification

The Carteck GSW40 has participated in the TÜV NORD burglary certification, which is an example of testing that was independently verified and not a self-certification. This door also meets the DIN EN 13241-1 standard. Buyers who are interested in insurance requirements or the Secured by Design program should contact the company directly to see if their certifications would meet their policy requirements.

The sectional door has a standard two-point manual locking system, while all of the panel sections are held in place by rollers in the door track when the door is closed. Every door on the range can be automated, and every electric package is built to the specifications of the door.

Low Headroom

In comparison to some competitors, one distinctive detail for Carteck is minimum headroom. The standard lifting spring system requires only 120mm of headroom above the door opening, or 140mm for the widest doors. That’s about 75mm lower than most sectional door manufacturers, affecting a significant number of UK garage installations, which have roof trusses sitting close to the lintel.

Who Carteck Suits

Carteck is not the cheapest sectional door on the market. It’s not designed to be either over the top or the cheapest. Instead, we’ve priced it with the competition for the similar specifications. For best use in the UK, its lead times, certification, low headroom, and range of standard heights make it a practical first choice for most of the market.

The 10-year guarantee is on the door, and that length of coverage shows a reasonable level of confidence in the product. As with any door though, the mechanism and springs will have their own service requirements over that coverage period.
